Last Day in San Francisco

Well, it’s my last full day in San Francisco and I’ve really enjoyed my time here. Today I spent a few hours in Golden Gate Park looking for a well-hidden treasure. Then I braved the crowds to score some Ghirardelli chocolate, returned to North Beach for some great pizza, and am back in the Castro for coffee. This morning, I met with Heather and Derek who treated me to breakfast at the Pork Store (a lot better than it sounds!), and I received an autographed copy of Derek’s new book. Stay tuned for a review, and if I get a second copy in the mail, watch for another contest, a la Zeldman. I’ll be home tomorrow, but don’t look for me until Tuesday. Jet lag, you know…

SF Impressions

Well, the first few days here have been eventful. Ocean Beach, the Tonga Lounge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Haight-Ashbury, Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower, and the Castro. I’ve moved on from Dinah and Edmond‘s hospitable home to the Jish-o-plex. His apartment is so close to the ocean, you can hear the waves breaking at night. One day the whole building might just fall right in. Having a wonderful time, wish you were all here.

Let’s Go: San Francisco

I’ve been rare of late, I know. I spent most of the past two weeks moving, and I’m finally (mostly) unpacked and back online. I have just over a week to prepare for my California excursion, and am really getting excited. Today I bought Let’s Go: San Francisco. I’ve never gone wrong with Let’s Go over the years, starting back in the 80s when I went to Europe. Keep those SF travel tips coming, folks!

California Couch Crash

Well, it’s official. The Consolation Champs California Couch Crash™ will take place from Saturday August 11 until Monday August 20. I’m taking suggestions for cool things to do in SF. That is, in addition to visiting with interesting blogfolk. I know all the major things I have to do (Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz, Ghirardelli, Chinatown, cable cars), and now I’m looking for less obvious delights, along the lines of the quirky Musee Mechanique (thanks for the suggestion, Cory.) Any ideas?
