Geek March Madness, SXSW 2001!

I discovered weblogs around March 2000, and what greeted me then was the happy chatter of dozens of bloggers basking in the post-SXSW glow. SXSW 2000 has been described as the bloggers' coming-out party and that excited me right away. When I began my own weblog in July 2000, I vowed to attend this year. I registered in late September, almost six months before the event. I rambled on and on about it over the winter. Nikolai, founder of the Bloggie Awards, assured me that if there was an award for most posting about SXSW, I would have won hands-down. So? How was it? Did it live up to all the hype for me? Read on…

My pre-arranged plan went something like this: Meet Michael Brown at the airport on Thursday, have dinner with him and his wife and son, then we'd pick up Dave Linabury at the hotel room he and I would be sharing and go for a drink. It didn't work out exactly as planned (it never does, does it?) but that didn't seem to matter…

(A note on links: I link to a person the first time I mention them on a page, but not every time. If you see someone's name who is not linked at all, they either don't have a site or I don't know the URL. Corrections gladly accepted)
