Fame Magnet

I sell computers for one of Toronto’s largest and oldest Apple dealers. Over the past few years, my job has brought me into contact with a lot of famous people, and I usually mention it here. I thought it would be neat to list them all in one place. In no particular order:

And, on a day when I wasn’t there, Michael Caine stopped by for some help with his iPod.

  1. I sold a powerbook to Michael Ondaatje. George Strombolopolous (did I spell it right?) from City (the New Music) comes into CSC pretty regularly. Apparently Roger Ebert comes in every year (Film Fest), but I haven’t talked to him, although I was at work last time.

At the Lichtman’s store I used to work at, I sold books to Conrad Black a couple of times. I had the misfortune to meet both Linda and David Frum at different bookstores (book signings) I worked at (in contrast, I think their mother, Barbara Frum, was an astounding journalist). Oh, and you’ve heard my embarrassing story about selling a copy of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep to David Cronenberg… others: Peter Mansbridge (news anchor god) and the darling Cynthia Dale (the bitch from Street Legal) – Christmas shopping; Catherine O’Hara – shopping for audio books narrated by Irish women so that she could study the accent; General Lewis Mackenzie (retired) – book signing; Tony Comper (Bank of Montreal CEO) – shopping.

And I had to mention an unrelated sighting (I was an innocent bystander): Kids in the Hall alumnus Bruce McCulloch in sweat pants and unshaven, making out with some girl at HMV downtown. Gross!

I always wanted to sell something to Don McKellar.

  2. Ooh, Sarah Harmer… I just discovered her not long ago on a “Mountain Stage” broadcast with all Canadian artists.

  3. achhhh! How drole! Bring out your famous! Don’t even begin that with me, mate!
Canadiana wannabes and minor celebs, puleeze. Really, that’s lower than the limbo pole! Slap on the wrist, and get over that noise. Its unbefitting such a superior mind and I’m entirely unimpressed.
    A fan
ps. with the slight exception of Ed . BL ROCKS!

  4. How can I resist? Jodie Foster came into the Museum with her kids last summer when I was working there (and when the Museum was still open). She was buying books for her kids in the bookshop and didn’t have a clue about our Canadian coinage.
