“I Have What You Need”

This Wired News story details “slash” fiction tales of Bill Gates/Steve Jobs secret love affair. I don’t even know where to begin, but this is funny:

“In real life, Bill Gates screwed Steve Jobs and everyone else in the computer industry.

But in Slash fiction, it’s Steve Jobs who gets to screw Bill Gates — literally.”

This puts Apple’s “Think Different” campaign in an entirely new light…

Yuk!

I just had a look at the site using Windows IE 6. Ugh. If you’re experiencing any uglinesses (for instance, in the sidebar), could you do me a favour and send me some screenshots? Update: Thanks, Leslie and Heather, for the screenshots. I’m trying some stuff, and we’ll see what happens.

Switch!

Wow! Apple’s unveiled a new ad campaign aimed at getting PC users to switch to Macintosh. One of the ads features Mark Frauenfelder, who is one of the BoingBoing guys. I think it’s about time they did something like this. The only thing I tell people who ask me about it is that a Mac, though a much more elegant machine, is still a computer. You still have to know a little bit about computers. It’s not like using your toaster, and it never will be. So, Macs are not for “dummies.” Which brings up my favourite customer “confession.” They’ll walk into my store and say, “Well, I’m computer illiterate…” I mean, would you walk into a bookstore and say, “What books do you have for people who can’t read?”

Dear Blogger…

Dear Blogger,

This is a hard letter for me to write. For the past two years, we’ve spent a lot of time together. You’ve helped me out a lot, and asked for nothing in return. Sure, you weren’t always dependable, but your heart was in the right place. You were my first love, and you’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Now comes the hard part…

I’ve met someone new. And I’m caught up in the throes of a new passion. It’s someone we both know, and I have to admit I’ve been flirting for a while. There’s no longer any way to keep my feelings a secret. So, I think it’s best if we stop seeing each other. I want you to know I’ll always love you. Thank you for teaching me so much. And I know you’ll find someone new, too.

Love always,

James
