El Lissitzky (1890-1941) created fascinating book designs during his lifetime, and worked with Chagall and Malevich. The Getty Museum has a fine online exhibit with lots of images of his work, including my favourite, his design for the book “For the Voice,” poems by Vladimir Mayakovsky, who was another fascinating individual. Try to track down his poem, “A Cloud in Trousers.”

Weblogs.com
For any regular readers of my site, or anyone else, actually, there’s a great way to keep track of when your favourite weblogs have been updated. Go to http://www.weblogs.com/ (spiffy new design, too, as of yesterday), and set up a free account. You can set up a list of blogs and it will let you know when they were last updated. It’s a really handy service and I use it every day.
Brush 738 BT With Fame
Brush 738 BT. That’s what font I’m using for the title. And I was using it before Heather tried her little experiment with Brush Script. So there… (UPDATE: This design thankfully abandoned!)
Canadian Thanksgiving
Brooke and I spent this weekend (Canadian Thanksgiving) at her parents’
house in Collingwood, Ontario, about 2 hours north of Toronto. On Sunday
night, it started snowing, and although I thought it would all be gone by
Monday morning, this is what we saw. I think this is the earliest I’ve ever seen snow on the ground. Mind you, Collingwood is in the heart of ski country in Ontario, and they get more snow than most places. Still, snow in October?

Ugly Fonts
Caterina praises the use of ugly fonts and overlooks my redesign. Really, I’m not hurt. I can’t even remember the name of the ugly font I used, and won’t be able to remember it until I’m back at work on Tuesday (Canadian Thanksgiving, you know…). But rest assured, it is an ugly stepchild of a font, not even worthy for barber signs or diner menus.
