Commanding Heights On PBS.org

If you are remotely interested in economics and history, PBS has made their three-part series, Commanding Heights, available to watch online. It says the video will be available for thirty days after the television broadcast, so I don’t know how long it will still be there, but the website itself is an incredibly packed resource in itself. In fact, the whole PBS website could occupy me for weeks. It has joined the Library of Congress site as one of my favourite haunts when I’m in need of a history fix. (Thanks, Brent!)

Cinema Paradiso Redux

I’ve just discovered that one of my favourite films is being re-released this summer. Giuseppe Tornatore’s unapologetically sentimental Cinema Paradiso (1988) has had its soundtrack remastered and the director has restored 51 minutes of footage. This one looks like it’s being prepared for a long-deserved special edition DVD. If you’re a cinema lover, do yourself a favour and see this on the big screen. (View the new trailer)

Emerging Tech Conference

Though I would have been the most confused person there, I still wish I’d attended the O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference which took place last week. Luckily, I’ve found a link to commentary on almost all the sessions. NOTE TO SELF: try to attend next year, and get in free as a journalist! (via boingboing)

Oh boy, lookie! They’re having an OS X conference which falls just before my wedding! Crap!
