I’m in the middle of reading Simon Winchester’s book, Krakatoa, and a volcanic eruption was the first thing I thought of upon discovering that, this morning, between 6:00am and 7:30am, this site was blasted with more than 300 pieces of comment spam. This, despite the presence of both Movable Type’s comment-throttling and Jay Allen’s fine MT-Blacklist plugin. It’s taken me more than an hour to dig out. Speaking of comment-throttling, I’d like to throttle the perpetrators.

Plain Layne Unmasked
Well, for anyone who’s been following the Plain Layne saga, this article lays out the whole tale. So, is “creative interactive fiction” a legitimate endeavour, or is it wrong to dupe people?
Whither Succa?
In the process of trying to fix some of the linkrot that has infested most of my older blog entries, I discovered that fellow Torontonian Nick Taylor (whose Succaland.com domain was snatched from him in 2002) has a new weblog. Unfortunately, Triplespeak hasn’t been updated since last August.
Maybe he got SARS?
SXSW 2004: Geek Hoedown
This has been a long time coming, and I’ve decided to just make a list of things I noticed or experienced this year. Vignettes. Snapshots. Whatever.
- I did not see Halcyon hug a single person this year. That kind of made me sad.
- Min Jung kissed a lot of people, though, and that pretty much made up for it.
- Kevin has a potentially lucrative career waiting as a “motivational speaker”.
- “What Happens at SXSWi F*#$ing Stays at SXSWi” stickers are a ridiculous sentiment when everyone has a blog.
- Matt is your man if you need advice about how to impress the ladies. This is true even despite Jay‘s obvious edge in experience.
- With so many cameras around, we should be able to recreate the whole experience in 3-D somewhere online.
- I’m funny-looking.
- The “Back Porch Club” thing has gotten way out of control. I blame Matt.
- Alison isn’t the first person to love saying my entire name.
- I didn’t see Brad enough this year.
As always, a fabulous time was had. By me, especially. Thanks everyone!
Back
I got home last night about 6:00pm. I’m exhausted and inspired at the same time. Catching up on a million work things today. Watch for some kind of report or summary here and maybe a few photos. Soon. But not right now…
In the meantime, Kristin has put up her photos. Who IS that handsome lad in the cowboy shirt?
