Stayed up until 2:00 am last night (this morning?) watching The Great Escape on DVD. Great film, but it was so influential on so many other films and TV shows, from Hogan’s Heroes to Chicken Run that it’s hard to watch it without thinking that so much of it has become cinematic cliché. Today, I’m all set to watch the 2 disc Rocky Horror Picture Show. When I was a teenager, they used to show this every Friday night at the old Roxy theatre in Toronto and some of my friends would go in costume. Remarkably, I never went. Too much of a punker, I was.
Friends of Jeffrey Veen

Here’s an idea for Heather. How about a Friends of Jeffrey Veen site? As long as everyone buys a copy of his book, I think Jeff would be OK with it.
Geek Week in Austin
Well, it’s finally ready. You can check out my SxSW pictures and commentary. It’s also mostly XHTML compliant, although I didn’t use CSS for positioning. Maybe I’ll fix that later. My narrative isn’t as reflective as I wanted it to be, but that’s mostly because it was edited down from my breathless “diary” that I usually updated when I got in at 3:00 am each morning. Since I’m not working, I didn’t have the luxury of testing on different platforms and browsers. It looks fine to me in IE5 on a Mac, but please let me know if you’re having trouble on your machine. Same thing with broken links, etc. Enjoy!
Coming to Canada
Heather brings a wide-eyed Derek to Canada. And yes, those are my dear friends Anil and Brad bashing Canada and me over on Derek’s blog. I can forgive stupidity. Besides, it’s too much work to go back over my SXSW photos and Photoshop those bastards out.
Awake at 7:00 am
Fairly productive day. Applied for some jobs online, got lots of work done on the SxSW section (almost there!!). This is what happens when you’re awake at 7:00 am. Later, I even rented The Great Escape DVD but fell asleep after about 40 minutes. This is what happens when you’re awake at 7:00 am. Hope you caught my April Fool’s page. I’m too lazy to archive it, though. It was something about monkeys.
